LadyBug

Taking a quick breather between building out the website logistics, this in-progress A4 piece focuses on a standalone ladybug portrait. It serves as a fantastic return to pure, clean macro-realism, stripping away the background to focus entirely on the beetle's sleek, rounded architecture.

The work-in-progress shot beautifully highlights the foundational pencil planning lines alongside the initial passes of rich ink stippling.

Hand-inked on a crisp A4 layout. The composition uses a direct top-down angle, making perfect symmetry the primary goal. You can clearly see the underlying graphite grid lines acting as a guide, ensuring each leg and spot aligns flawlessly as the ink is laid down.

Ladybugs are defined by their smooth, dome-shaped elytral shells. The main challenge here is building a deep, solid black color on the spots and head while leaving bright, un-inked halos of negative space to capture a brilliant, glassy sheen.

Working on a tight, crisp piece like this is the perfect creative anchor while handling the business side of art, like setting up a web store. It’s a great reminder that even during busy desk transitions, keeping the pen moving on simple, highly satisfying subjects keeps the momentum alive.
